1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to store information about your preferences or session state. They allow websites to recognize your browser and remember certain information between visits. Some technologies we use, such as localStorage, serve a similar purpose but are stored differently in your browser.
2. Cookies and Storage We Use
Essential (Always Active)
These are required for PromptVan to function. You cannot opt out of essential cookies without losing the ability to use the Service.
- better-auth.session_token - Session cookie used for authentication. This keeps you logged in and secures your session. It is strictly necessary and is set only when you sign in.
- pv-theme (localStorage) - Stores your preferred theme (light or dark mode). This is not a cookie but a localStorage entry. It is never sent to our servers and exists only in your browser.
- pv-cookie-consent (localStorage) - Records whether you have acknowledged the cookie consent banner. This is also a localStorage entry and is not transmitted to our servers.
Analytics (Optional)
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service. Plausible does not use cookies at all. It collects only aggregate, anonymized data (page views, referral sources, country-level location) without tracking individual users or storing any personal data.
What We Do NOT Use
- Marketing or advertising cookies
- Third-party tracking cookies (e.g. Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel)
- Social media tracking pixels or widgets that set cookies
- Cross-site tracking of any kind
3. Managing Cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Here is how to manage cookies in the most common browsers:
- Chrome - Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox - Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari - Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge - Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
Please note: Disabling or deleting essential cookies (specifically the session cookie) will sign you out and prevent you from logging in to PromptVan. Clearing localStorage will reset your theme preference and cookie consent state.
